Portfolio Project

The Self Advocating Artist

Project Objectives

Pauline Harley, the owner of The Self Advocating Artist approached me to put together a website to showcase her art in a standard website which also incorporated a 3D virtual art gallery. After some exploration, Pauline settled on on using  the Artsteps as platform for this, which has been embedded into the amin website. Another primary requirement for Pauline was to setup a connection between her website and her Printful print on demand account to be able to sell her prints. Finally, to add more depth to her artwork, Pauline wanted to add audio notes to explain what prompted her to create each pice.

Approach

An exciting project which allowed me to explore creating a small, functional e-commerce shop connecting a relatively standard WordPress website to a print-on-demand service provider (Printful), via Woocommerce’s plugin, and using Prinftul’s API to ensure a smooth user experience for any print buyers.

In addition, this required embedding a 3D virtual art gallery and audio notes recorded by the site owner.

As Pauline already has an account on the Substack publishing platform called The Self-Advocating Autist for which she self-designed the logo, she wanted this Artist website to reflect the logo colours and fonts used there. We wanted to keep the overall design and layout for her gallery to have a very “clean”, minimalist and classic look to it and quickly settled on a monochrome design, with only the occasional splash of colour for interest.
